StuffIt Expander App Reviews
This app works nicely with many file types. The one I havent gotten to work is extracting password protected 7z. After entering the password, it looks liek its extracting, but the folder doesnt appear. There are no error messages, so I have no idea what went wrong. This is the case with a number of 7z files I tried, and since I use password-protected 7z files a lot, I needed to find a different app to handle them.
So helpful
Simply what we need to solve ours problems.
Ive been using this program for years, and Ive always been happy with it. I can no longer say that. The newest release (Oct. 1, 2012) claims to have better support for RAR files, but in fact it wont recognize them at all now. Apples on-board Archive program works fine on ZIPs, and I rarely encounter SIT fles any more, so RARs is all I have this program for any more, and it wont even do that. So now my question is, why should I bother with StuffIt? Ive downloaded another free extractor that does the job just as well.
new version stopped working with applescripts and everytime you double click a file it asks for where to extract it, I think that is what made applescripts stoping working. please fix it.
Awful Always prompting for registration. Dont install this irritate
Dont install this irritating app.It prompts for registration all the time.
New Version
New version is horrid. Will not recognize any .rar files. The old version was working fine until update. Dont waste your time with this app.
useful
very useful and easy to do! what you need to do is just download the documents, and it will transfer it automatically
This app is a must have for me on any mac. I like it because it supports pretty much any compression format out there like RAR, and 7zip. Very handy to have. No problems at all so far for me.
Though this app is listed as a "FREE" app, it is actually shareware. After a while it will ask you to register. To register, you have to go to their website and give them $29.99. Why cant SmithMicro put the $29.99 tag on the app itself and save us the extra work? Id be a lot happier if they were simply honest and hit you for it up front instead of doing Shareware. Shareware is so 90s. Works fine otherwise.
Updated review 18 November 2012 I only came in here because Ive got an update notification (that aint happening). To remove the update notification, the entire app is "going away." Its totally useless, IMO, especially since there are far better apps that can handle .sit/.sitx files (although I havent seen one of those in 2 years), plus a BOATLOAD of other formats that this cant. Entropy can handle both .sit and .sitx, .rar, .zip, .7z...and a whole lot more file formats. In addition, it gives you awesome choices for low, medium and high compression AND none, Data only or Data and Header encryption. I have Entropy and use it exclusively, except for the odd .zip.001 type files and the freeware app Split and Concat takes care of those. Stuffits just a waste of space on my Mac and its going to sleep with the fishes. :)
It has poor support for RAR files. In my experience any RAR file approaching 900mb will break. Support for Applescript is definitely a downgrade, commands that worked before no longer works. I hope they will fix this soon.
I read all the buzz about Stuffit not detecting .rar files and stuff … I almost didnt download that app cuz of all those reviews … still I decided to give it a shot since a friend reccommended this app highly. I got to say … for me this app works perfectly. I am using Mountain Lion and I have no complaints at all about this app!! Good Job Stuffit developer team!
Great software! Ive been using it for a while, and it works perfectly. Theres a user who complaint about the RAR support. I got this problem, but it was just not selected on the preferences of Stuffit - its simple to fix.
It does its job!
I have absolutley had no problem with this app. Its free and try it yourself i you are not sure. Did I mentioned its free?!
Awesome app!
Ive been using this app for so long and its just there and always works! Thanks for the great app! I appreciate it!
Thumbs Up
It does what it says, and it gets the job done well and fast. Kudos.
Awesome
best app out there for expanding compressed files!!
Files extracted from 7x archives with v15.0.7 may be corrupted without any error indicated. For example, the tessus ffmpeg builds here: www.evermeet.cx/ffmpeg
Cant do xz
If you cant do the popular formats, what good are you?
Needs to do .bin
If this app would do .bin files from the wii I could use my SSBB screenshots and that would be nice.
